LI: to create your own poem or song lyric.

Today I have completed the 8th activity for the first week of the Summer Learning Journey. This activity is called Rise up. I have completed the Kick Start and Step it up activities today. For this activity we watched a video created by some students of Mangere College. They created a music video called 'Rise Up'. By watching that video we were able to think of our own song lyric.

For my song lyric/chorus, it was made to help someone feel better. There are some people out there who don't always have the best days so it is good to cheer them up and make them smile. I have also created an audio sound of me reciting my song lyric as a poem. This was a fun activity for me, i've never created my own song lyric so this was a new experience.

  1. Tēnā koe Fau, this is Elle from the Summer Learning Journey team.

Thank you for sharing your chorus for the Rise Up activity!

I really like the topic of your song, funnily enough, it made me smile too! I think it is beautiful that you’ve written a chorus encouraging people to smile and be proud of who they are! Helping to cheer others up is always the best part of my day. You are a great lyricist and I can’t believe this was your first time writing a song! Tino pai! Do you think you will write more songs in the future?

Well done for stepping it up and recording yourself reading your lyrics! I’m glad to hear that you enjoyed the activity, because you have done a great job.

Keep up the great work Fau, and I’m looking forward to seeing more of your blog posts this summer.

    Ngā mihi,
    Elle (SLJ)

    1. Hi Elle!

Thank you for commenting on my blog! Thank you for the compliments, I am relieved that it made it you smile. The answer to your question, in the future I am not sure if I would pursue a career of becoming a song-writer. I enjoy writing sometimes in my own time but I don't think i'd write more songs. How about you, have you ever written your own song/poem? If so then what is it about?

Hope to hear more from you throughout the summer!

    2. Hi Fau, you are most welcome and it is wonderful to hear back from you!

That is great that you like writing in your own time. The best thing about writing is that you don’t always have to share every single piece, they can be purely for your own enjoyment of creating! What do you like to write about in your spare time?

Song-writing is one of my favourite ways to pass the time! I have written a lot of songs before, but one of the ones I have written recently that I’m most proud of is a song about being a daydreamer, called “Away With The Fairies.” I am quite the daydreamer, according to my family!

Keep up the awesome work Fau, and happy holidays! I can’t wait to see more of your activities.

  2. Kia ora Fau,

Wow! Your poem has such a beautiful message. I like how you expressed what you were trying to say in the form of lyrics which was "love yourself and believe in yourself". Great job on recording yourself as well. Your blog post is a perfect example to show others. I also liked how you have chosen a new topic rather than choosing the same topic Mangarere College used. You were very creative. I have completed this task as well and have shared the message of not loosing hope. Do you think songs and poems are a very effective way of conveying your message? If yes, how do you think so?

I am looking forward for your response!

    1. Hi Sakshi!

Its good to see you commenting on my blog once again, I appreciate the compliments. I will check out your version of the rise up activity soon and comment. The answer to your question is yes, I believe song lyrics/poems help people express themselves in a different way, and is also very effective. How about you, do you think songs and poems are a very effective way of conveying your message? Yes or no and why?

Hope to see more comments from you thoughout the summer!

  4. Malo E lelei Fau,

Reading your blog post blurb was really interesting to read as I liked how you explained the meaning of your lyric I found it really fun to read becuase I liked your meaning about our lyric. I think that writing a lyric about sheering someone up is a really good idea.

if you were able to change your lyric and meaning then what would it be?

    Keep up the great work!
