SLJ Week 1 Activity 1

LI: To collect materials needed to successfully complete our weekly superpower building missions with Nano Girl.

This morning LS2 worked in groups with our Year 4 students to help them create their first Summer Learning Journey blog posts. PBS are still at school this week so finding some of the materials we needed for our treasure hunt was easy. Our challenge is going to be able to find all the materials we need at home now. This activity was interesting and very fun, for this activity we were able to improvise and use our heads to find some objects that were needed around the classroom. Me and Aliyan K created a screencastify video explaining what we found and what Nano Girl explained in the video we have watched.

  1. Kia ora Fau,
I really liked reading your blog post today. I also like that the video and the blurb makes the topic more detailed. Adding the pictures in the screencastify was a really good idea as well. I really enjoyed completing this task because the out come is still a surprise and we need to find it out. What are the five words that come in your mind while thinking about this activity?
    Keep up the great work!

  2. Malo e lei lei Fau,

My name is Zana and I am a blog commenter from the Summer Learning Journey, it is awesome to see your first post of the summer and I look forward to seeing more as you continue blogging! I thought this activity was awesome as you had to use your creativity to find substitutes for items you might not have had and it is the first activity in a series of Nano Girl activities and experiments. I thought your video was very well made, you explained the activity well, you explained the materials you found and the materials you substituted and everyone in your team had a chance to speak which was very inclusive and insured everyone had a turn. I would like to know if you have any predictions for what you might be able to make using these materials?

Keep up the great work and I hope to see more of your posts over the summer.

    Malo ‘Aupito,
    Zana Yates

    1. Hello Zana!

I am very happy that you commented on my blog today. In my opinion I think that we might be creating something related to weights or balance. I think this because we needed a large spoon and something that weighs differently. I am not sure about this because we also needed a roll or tube and I can't find an idea of what we'd use it for. What do you think you could make using the materials that we needed and listed in our video?

Looking forward to more comments from you and your peers!

    2. Kia Ora Fau,

I have a guess that you might be making multiple different projects with these materials, maybe a mix of inventions and experiments! Keep an eye out every
Monday for a new Nano Girl post and we will see what fun stuff you will make!

This was amazing. Its really detailed and explained really well. I like how you included what it does and how you included your opinion as well. Your screen castify was well done as well. For me this task was really fun to do because we were able to make a video. What do you think we are going to make using these items?
