Volleyball | Kiwisport

LI: to learn how to play volleyball with 4 techniques, set, serve, dig and spike.

This week we had our last session of Volleyball with Coach Elena. Since it was the last session we used all of the 4 skills we have learnt thoughout the term and used it to play a game. The techniques we learnt was a dig (recieve), spike, set and serve. We first had a warmup of a serving game.

For this serving game we had been split into two groups. One person chosen from each group had been told to serve  the ball to their team mates, if they get the ball over the net while serving then whoever its near has to recieve or set the ball over the net. If they manage to get the ball over the net while recieving or setting then they go over to the other side and help the server out. The two teams competed against each other to see if they can get all of the people to the other side first. My team (Team 1) lost 2 times in a row.

Next we started to have some games. We were split into 4 teams, team 1, team 2, team, 3 and 4. This game was called king of the court. If your team could stay at a certain court winning all games then your the king of the court. For this session we used all our skills to try win. The winners of this match was Team 3.

I really enjoyed volleyball this term.

Kiwi Sport Reflection | Cricket

LI: To learn how to play Cricket.

Today we started our first Kiwi Sport session of the year. This term the sport we are doing is cricket. Our coach's name is Brian, he is from Howick Pakuranga Cricket Club. We split into two teams. My team started with Bowling.

Bowling:

In this section we learnt how to bowl/throw. We started off with getting into 3 groups of 4-5. There were a Tennis Ball, Wicket and 4 cones for each group. We had to use the tennis ball to throw at the 4 cones. To do that we had to aim by using the opposite hand your throwing with. Once we hit one of the 4 cones we need to put it on one of the wicket stands. Whichever team does all 4 cones win. My team won for this section. Our next challenge was to hit the wicket. If we hit the wicket we need to pull a pole out. If you have no more poles you win.

Batting:

After the bowling session we moved on to Batting. For batting there were 4 people batting and the rest fielders. There were a line of blue cones for where the fielders can stand. The fielders job is to get the ball that the batter bats and run as fast as they can to put it back on the stand. While the fielders are doing that the batters run back and forth as fast as they can. They try to get as much runs as possible.

LI: To learn how to play a 2v2 game on tennis.

This week we had played 2v2 for tennis. On one side of the net there were the champions and on the other side was the challengers. The ball gets served to the challengers first. The challengers only have 1 chance but the champions has 2. If the ball hits the net, doesn't go over the net, bounces 2 times, or gets out of the square then those people are out but if it was the champions they have another chance. At the end of the session the champions from each side of the court had competed against one another. It was Sione & Makaili vs Andrew and Hosea. The first duo to two points wins. There was a good rally but unfortunately Hosea and Andrew had lost with Sione and Makaili won.

Kiwi Sport | Tennis

LI: To learn how to hold a racket.

This term our kiwisport was tennis. Our coach was Peter, he taught us how to hold a racket depending on whether your right handed or left handed. We also learnt how to hit the tennis ball forehand and backhand.

We started off with a warmup, this warmup was to see how we react. We had to get into partners and one person would hold the ball up and the other person will put their hands out facing down and when the partner with the ball drops the ball they have to react by turning their hands and catching it.

Then we started with throwing and hitting. In our partners one person would under arm the ball over the net and the other person has to hit the ball depending on which side the ball is thrown on, the backhand side or forehand side.  The aim was to hit the ball and throw the ball where the cones were in front of us.

Next we had done some relays. It was hard because we were trying to keep the ball going from side to side. If you aim the racket facing one way then when you hit the ball it will go where the racket is facing. We had to try and hit the ball gently so the other person wouldn't need to keep on running back and forth.

Swimming | Kiwi Sport

LI: to learn how to rescue people in the water.

This week we had been learning how to rescue drowning people. We had first found a partner. My partner was Sulia.

We had to learn how to rescue someone if they were drowning. When you are rescuing someone it is vital that you don't make any physical contact with them because you can risk your life too. So you need to throw something out for them to hold on and pull them to shore. You need to lie flat on the ground and throw them the object, the object has to be something that can float. If you stand up you might fall in the water.

Sulia had to pass me a noodle in the water and pull me out of the water. After that I had done the same for her.

Then we had been doing streamlines. For the streamlines we had to kick from one platform to another.

Then we had been doing duck divings. We had to duck dive for toys in the water. We had to throw them in the water and try to swim to them and get it than throw it again. It was super fun to do. We were throwing each others toys.

Than we had to hop out of the pool and get changed into our school uniform.

This week our swimming instructor was James. We first started off with Streamlines.

Streamlines:
For the streamlines we had to remember arms behind our ears and head facing down then push of and kick.

Kicking with the Board:
We had to kick with the board straight with our head up. Then next we had to hold the board infront of us and kick.

Swim with your stomach touching the ground:
We had to dive into the water and swim with our stomach touching the surface of the pool floor. If we needed air than we would swim back up.

CHALLENGE!
We had a challenge to see if we could swim from one end of the pool to the other without stopping. I had successfuly accomplished it by sculling my whole way.

LI: To learn water safety skills.

This week was our first week of swimming fro the term and year. We had split ourselves into our year level. The seniors year level had went with the juniors. I was in the Year 6 group. We had went with the Year 1 group. We first split ourselves into least confident swimming in the deep pool and the most confident. We had two swimming instructors, Lizzy and Elizabeth. I was with Elizabeth.

We first were doing the floating. We had to float on our stomache than turn around on our back. We had tried this one by one. Than we had done another one. After we had done another floating activity but we had to lie facing down in the water the tuck our feet in and lie the opposite direction. This was hard at first but I had got it. Than we had done sommersaults from one end to the half way of the pool. Then we had done dolphin dives all the way to the half way of the pool. Then lastly we had high fived Elizabeth's  hand and exited the pool after doing our favorite swimming move. Mine was the sculling.

Last we had our third rotation. IN our rotation there were Handstand on the Wall, Paralell bars, Front, Back, Side Support, The bars, and Shoulder push up ( Front support). For the Back, Front, Side support we had to make sure we make our hips tight so the object doesn't roll.

Reflection:
I had really enjoyed the gymnastics session for Kiwi Sport. I think the one thing I need to work on was the Paralell bars.

Kioma Role

L.I to learn the role in Ki o rahi.
Kiwi Sport is assigned for our school to be active. In Kiwisport we had played golden child once again. I came in late but I still got to play. I had also got the chance to be guarding the pou and I think I did a really good job. The taniwha only got one hit because I was a really good. Our team won because we got a lot of hits and we got a lot of runs. It was hard to hit the ball on the pou because the guards were really good.

Kiwi Sport | Ki O Rahi | Basics

LI: To learn the basic skills of a traditional Maori game Ki O Rahi

This year for Term 1 we have a new topic for A Maori traditional game called Ki O Rahi. Ki O Rahi was a game created back in the day. This game was created for Solving disputes and stopping violence and disagreements.

GAMES:

We first played a game to get a our skills ready for when we learn  how to play a real game of Ki O Rahi. Our coach Sharnise split us into 2 groups, 1 group called Kioma and the other called Taniwha. It is exactly like Rats and Rabbits but we changed the name to what is related to the legend of Ki O Rahi.

Then we played another game called 8 passes. The Kioma team had to put on bibs. we had to pass the ball around 8 times with our team and try not let the other team get it by intercepting and defending. This game was with netball rules.

The next game we played was a sports mash up. We had to get in the line with our groups on the opposite sides of the court. If Coach Shanise says Netball 3 people then three people would run around the hoop of there side and play a game of Netball, If you get a goal then your team gets a point. Also if she says 5 people touch or basketball. Any sport she says and the amount of people who are going to play the game.
