Kiwi Can | Role Model

LI: To learn how to become a role model.

This week for Kiwi can we were learning about how to be a role model. Last week for Kiwi Can we talked about listening. We learnt about people who were role models and why they are role models. Some role models in people slives are their parents, siblings, and other people. A role model is someone who is a good example to others and inspires people to do things with more confidence. For our enigiser we were doing a game called hammer, we worked as pairs. For our activity we played was called picture it, we worked with groups of 6-7.

Kiwi Can | Confidence

For Kiwican we were talking about Leadership. We were talking about what leaders needed to overcome, and what is a confident leader. They need to overcome fear, embarrassment, anxiety, emotions and the negative outcomes of possibilities. Leaders also need to be brave and take risks. We also shared our personal leaders in our lives, like our parents, or even someone famous. Leadership means being responsible, being confident, and patient. A confident leader inspires people to do their best, and is a role model. Kiwi Can really made us think about all the leaders in our life and around the world.

Kiwi Can

LI: To learn how we can respect ourselves and each other in many different ways.

This was our first session for term 4. We had Mr Latu and new kiwi can leader, Mr Simanu. For this term our theme is going to be Respect. This week we are learning how to respect one another and mainly ourselves.

Tooty Fruity!
For our enegiser we did an activity based on our listening skills and how well we can listen. So Mr Simanu would say some fruits and we had to react to those fruits with the action that they are. Apple is jump forward, orange is jump backwards and banana is turn 80 degrees. We had a challenge. If you didn't do the right action or did it slow you we elimanated. At the end winners were Me, Charlize and Andrew.

Next we talked about what makes us unique and some unique things about ourself. Everybody is different, we have different fingerprints, looks, etc.

1 Lie, 1 Truth
For the activity we had to come up with 1 lie and 1 truth about ourselves. Someone will stand up and say 1 truth and 1 lie about themselves. First it was Mr Simanu, his 1 truth and lie was that he's been bunjy jumping and he was a contemporary/ballet dancer. We had to go to either side of the room and Mr Simanu will choose the group that was right. After Mr Simanu was Mr Ogilvie, his was he can eat a 6 inch long subway in under 30s and he can eat a cheesburger in one bite. The correct answer was he can eat a 6 inch long subway in under 30s. Then Mr Latu chose 3 people from the class to do it.

Kiwi Can | Puzzle

LI: To complete challenges and understand what is a challenge.

This week for Kiwi Can our theme was Resilience and our topic was dealing with challenges. We first had our greeting. Our greeting was " Malo E Lelei " for Tongan language week. Our catchphrase for the week was " Kiwi can says, When your dealing with challenges, Don't go over it, don't go under it but go through it and just do it!"

Energiser!
For our energiser this week we played a game called Commands. We all had to stand in a circle and Mrs Mack with say 6 commands that we have to follow. If she says one command and we do a different command then we are eliminated.

Then we had a discussion about how challenging that was .

Activity!
For our activity we had to go into groups of 3 and try and solve a puzzle using a piece of paper and a pen. We had to use different shapes to create one whole shape. This challenge was definitely difficult because we didn't know where all the pieces went. At the end we all found out the answer and realized that if we thought outside the box than we would accomplished it.

Bonus Challenges!
At the end of Kiwi Can Mrs Mack gave our teacher an Idea to give us a challenge. The challenges was to do the exact same puzzle we had done for our activity and give instructions. If you would like to do this challenge than make a copy of this link - Puzzle DLO

Kiwi Can

LI: To learn how to self control and cope with challenges.

This week we have been continuing with Self control and Self discipline in Kiwi Can. Self control is also like control your emotions and Self Discipline is like choosing the right choices for yourself.

The Four Challenges!
So for our activity we had split into 4 groups of 4-6. For this activity there were four challenges that we had to work in a team with to accomplish in 1m.

One of the challenges were, Fitness. For the fitness activity we had to do 5x Push ups, 5x Sit ups, 5x Squats, 5x Bur pees. If we finish one round of that before 1m is over than we need to try do another round. In my group we did 1 round and a half. In this challenge I felt pressured to try and do 2 rounds before 1 minute was over.

Another challenge was sorting Maori words and English words. For this challenge we had to try and sort out the Maori colours and pair it with the English meaning, for my group we had finished 6 colours. I think this was the second hardest because we never really knew the Maori colours that well.

For this challenge we had to try recreate the Kiwi Can catchphrase with our own actions. The Kiwi Can catchphrase was " Kiwi Can says! Control yourself, Don't Shout, Over and out!". It was hard trying to recreate it because some of us had ideas and other people didn't and we didn't know what action to do so we just chose the actions made by some of our team members.

The last challenge we had to do was writing the alphabet backwards. In my opinion this was the hardest out of them all because we had to start from Z and we always had to sing the alphabet song. We had only got up to the letter T.

After our session our score was 44 out of 50. We need to work on Respect and Positive Additude next week. After that we walked back to LS1.

Kiwi Can | Resilience

LI: To learn how to self control and self discipline in different situation.

Over the past weeks we had been learning about understanding emotions. Now we have a new topic, our new topic was Self Control and Self Discipline. Mrs Mack and Miss Paige were on releave so Mr Latu was our Kiwi Can leader.

Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes!

For our enigiser we played heads, shoulders, knees and toes. We had to find a partner in the room and get one cone per partner. We had to squat, then Mr Latu will say " Heads.. ( Then we touch our heads) Shoulders... ( We touch our shoulders) Knees.... ( We touch our knees) Then when Mr latu says toes we have to try snatch the cone as quickly as possible. The winner of the round was Afatia.

Acting Scenario's:

With the acting scenarios we had split into four groups of 6-7. In my group was Charlize, Afatia, Hosea, Sione and Andrew. We had got a card that had a scenario for us to act. After that we had to act our the scene. Our scene was about two friends arguing about something that happened in the weekends, and how they could self control/discipline. We made it out that  one of the friends stole something form the shop when the one friend said no, then they argued and the friend returned the item that was stolen.

Kiwi Can | Resilience

LI: To understand other peoples emotions.

This week for Kiwi Can our topic was understanding emotions and our theme is Reslisience. We talked about how we can understand someones emotions and knowing what emotions they could be feeling.

For our enegiser we had done an activity based on the level of intensity of the emotion. Mrs mack had given out cards that had different emotions on them and we had to find other people with a card with the same type of emotion as us. They weren't all the same we had to try find different emotions that mean the same thing as our emotion. Then in our groups we had to lay out the cards and place them in the level on intensity.

For our activity we had split into different groups. We had gotten a card that had a role of what we had to act. When we were doing the act the other people had to try figure the emotons we were feeling.

Kiwi Can | Responsibility

LI: Doing things with out being asked.

Responsibility is showing you are a leader in what you do and you can be trusted to do tasks.
The catchphrase of the week is " Kiwi Can says: Responsible is what I am, that's the way of Kiwi Can".

At Kiwi Can we spoke as a group talking about the different responsibilities we have at home, at school or in the community. e.g at home you could be responsible for feeding your pets. At school you could be responsible for bringing your chrombook to school fully charged everyday, and for the community you could be responsible for cleaning your environment.

Activity:
Using skipping ropes, we had to balance a ball by working together. Once it was balanced perform a simple task e.g walk and touch the window without dropping the ball.
