SLJ Week 1 Activity 2

LI: To write a quality blog comment on someone else’s blog that starts a rich learning conversation.

Leaving a quality blog comment on another  student’s blog helps us make connections to new learning by asking open ended questions that encourage a reply and motivate the blogger to ask their own question in return. This is how a comment thread starts and when that happens we make connections with a wider audience who we can learn with and from. I have commented on Jessie T's blogpost from Glen Innes School and also Malachi from Ruapotaka School. I have also commented on Sau and Tumanaako's blog but my comments need to be approved.

  1. Malo e lei lei Fau,

My name is Zana and I am a blog commenter from the Summer Learning Journey. I found this activity really fun as I like seeing all the positive, thoughtful and helpful comments being left on everyone's blogs. I thought your comments were very well written and checked all the boxes of a quality comment, you included a compliment, a connection and a question that all linked to their post and to yourself. I think these quality comments are great as they create connections, spread positivity and encourage people to continue to blog and step up the quality of their blogs. I liked that you took these activities one step further and rather than just posting on comment you posted multiple.

All comments that are positive, thoughtful or helpful will receive points. Remember to submit a link to your published comment using this form. .

Keep up the great work and I hope to see more of your posts over the summer.

    Malo ‘Aupito,
    Zana Yates

    1. Hello Zana!

I have replied to your comment on my other post, thank you for commenting. With the help of my teacher/s, I now understand that commenting on someone's blog helps develop learning conversations with other people. I will remember to submit all my comments on the form. I have a question though, do I also need to submit my comment replies on the form? What I mean by this is do I also send the link of my blogpost where I reply to other comments or does replying not count?

Looking forward to you and your peers commenting on my blog!

    2. Hi Fau,

Every time you post a comment on someone else's blog post you submit your original comment to the form linked above. I hope this answers your questions!

  2. Malo e lelei Fau,
Wow! I loved reading your blog post today! I liked the way your blurb is well detailed as it explains the topic more clearly to the reader. I also liked that you have related their task to your own and have also shared your opinions. Are you looking forward to comment on other blogs? If yes, what other elements will you include?
    Keep up the great work!

    2. Hi Fau,

Thank you for answering my question. I really like the answer you gave. I agree those are the four major elements of a quality blog comment. Yes, I really enjoy commenting. I think it is a very knowledgeable way through which the reader and the blogger gets a chance to share their opinion in a form of conversation. I also like commenting as we get a chance to compliment on others and also ask questions to know more about the topic. How do you think commenting helps the in our learning?

      Thank you!
      -Sakshi

    1. Hey Chris!

Thank you for the compliments you have given to me. I am looking forward to commenting on other peoples post (including you). Ever since I have been introduced to blogger (which was about 3-4 years ago). I think my commenting has improved and are now quality compared to 3-4 years ago. When did you start commenting? and when did you understand that your comments were quality?

Hope to see more comments from you during the summer!
