Te Reo Maori Challenge | Kowhaiwhai Patterns

LI: To design a kowhaiwhai pattern for our PBS Te Reo Blog.

A kowhaiwhai pattern is a traditional pattern from the maori culture. Kowhaiwhai patterns represent stories or tales from the past. 

The meaning of my kowhaiwhai pattern is showing how you can succeed and move forward in the future. The red and white colors reflect the positive and negative things in life.

Symphony Maths

Today I have completed another 15 minute symphony maths challenge. On my stage I am learning how to add 3 digit numbers together. Doing this I am working with place value. On the questions it is a bit hard to understand as the numbers are shown in the cards but it gets easier as I get used to  reading it. I really enjoy doing symphony maths. 

Wahine Disaster | Summary and Evaluation

LI: To explain in fewer words what the text is about.

This week the Kakapo's have done recriprocal reading on the story of "Escape from the Wahine". This story was about a natural disaster now one of New Zealand's most worst maritime storms/cyclones. After reading the story we had created a summary and an opinion as a group. We had created our summary and opinion on two different DLO's. Using our smart researching skills we found out some other relevant information for our opinion and summary. 

Assembly Reflection | #7 | PBS Livestream

Today LS2 was watching the seventh livestream assembly for PBS. The online assemblies started during level 3-2 lockdown. Mrs Johnston had been directing the assemblies each friday. The assemblies were to give updates on school/lockdown activity. We have continued the online assemblies during level 2. The assemblies have been giving updates on school activity and student achievements. Today Sakshi and Sulia had recieved their badges.  

Food Technology | Mrs Heka | Hotcakes

LI: To learn how to follow a recipe making banana pikelets. 

Today was the Yr 7's second session at food tech. Juel and I both worked together making our food. The food we were making today was banana hotcakes/pikelets with blueberry sauce. Juel and I both followed Mrs Heka's insctructions throughout the session. 

Cooking the hotcakes:

First we got out our utensils and mixing bowls. In the large bowl we added 1 cup of flour and 1 tblsp of sugar. We split the workload between me and Juel. Juel had gotten 3/4 of milk and 1 or 2 eggs. I had gotten the flour  and 2 tblsp of butter. We first mixed together the milk and eggs. Then we added one mashed up banana and milk and eggs into the flour bowl making our batter. After preparing our batter we started on our blueberry sauce. Juel and I both took turns making our pancakes. We made 6 pancakes each. Then after we made our blueberry sauce and our hotcakes, Mrs Heka had added the blueberry sauce on our hotcakes with Vanilla Ice-Cream. 

Since me and Juel were the first people to finish, we helped out some people making their hotcakes and washing their dishes. 

Cityscape of Sydney | Art

LI: To write a description of your cityscape using prepositions.

In my cityscape it shows my creation of the reflection and silhouette of Sydney. You should see a big arc on the right end of the artwork. The most prominent shape shows the famous Sydney Harbour Bridge. Did you know, it took 1,400 men eight years to build the bridge at a cost of 1.5 billion Australian dollars and 16 lives lost?  On the other side of the artwork shows the tallest observation tower in the southern hemisphere, the Sydney Tower. My art also shows a blend of cool colours. The colours reflect the background and the type of time it is during the day. To blend the colours I used chalk pastels, I used the colours dark purple and dark blue creating a gradient color. I also added black to my colors to darken the tone. 

Exponents | Maths Challenge

LI: To use exponents.

This week for maths some students of LS2 have been learning how to use exponents. The exponent in a number shows how many times you use the number in multiplication. Today Sakshi, Sulia and I created a DLO solving a maths challenge. The question we were trying to solve was " If a hero tried to conquer the hydra by cutting off all of its heads everyday, how many  heads would the hydra have in 3 and 10 days?". To solve this problem our strategy was using exponents.
