Decimals

LI: To practise solving decimal addition and subtraction problems.

This week for maths we have been continuing on with decimals. A decimal is a number bigger than zero but smaller than one. We had to show how to add and subtract decimal number by using either the algorithmn method or using place value. To add decimal numbers using the algorithm method you need to align the numbers, so put the the units in the right place. Your write down the number one on top and one on the bottom, then you add the small numbers first going on to the big numbers. When you write down your answer you need to remember to add your decimal point in between the decimals and the solid numbers. To subtract decimal numbers using the place value methos, you need to get your number. Than your first need to add your smallest numbers going on to your big numbers. Than you get your answer by adding all of the answers you have got.
