Commenting

LI: To comment on someone elses blog.

This week I had commented on Farzana's Blog. She blogged about her Kiwi Sport, Gymnastics.

Basic Facts

LI: To learn more basic facts.

This week I have done the Brainbox. I had went up to 20 in my basic facts.I had took a png of the slide.

SSR Selfie 2019

LI: To summarise a book.

This week I had read a book called " Asia Everything you ever wanted to know NOT FOR PARENTS". The book talks about the different tradition and more about the countries of Asia.

Gymnastics

LI: To practice flexibility.

This week we had  another session of gymnastics with Stephen. We had started with a warmup next we had got into our 3 rotations in our groups.

Rotation 1. Beam, Dive roll, Bunny hops, Forward Roll

This week my group had started with the beam rotation. In our rotation we had Beam, Dive roll, Bunny hops, and Forward Roll. We first started with the Beam going onto the dive roll, next the bunny hops and forward roll.

Rotation 2. Straight Jump, Dive roll jump, Backwards roll, Candle Stick, and Handstand

Next my group had went onto the Straight jump Rotation. In our rotation we had Straight Jump, Dive roll jump, Backwards roll, Candle Stick, and Handstand. When we had went onto the Backwards roll we had to push our feet so we can stand up.

Rotation 3. Handstand on the Wall, Paralell bars, Front, Back, Side Support, The bars, Shoulder push up ( Front support)

Last we had our third rotation. IN our rotation there were Handstand on the Wall, Paralell bars, Front, Back, Side Support, The bars, and Shoulder push up ( Front support). For the Back, Front, Side support we had to make sure we make our hips tight so the object doesn't roll.

Reflection:
I had really enjoyed the gymnastics session for Kiwi Sport. I think the one thing I need to work on was the Paralell bars.

Meme | Collaboration

LI: to collaborate on a task.
Collaborate means working with other people to accomplish something. We learnt to collaborate by watching an example and creating a meme about collaboration with a partner. We had got a picture from online or make your own. If you had got it from online you need to remember to attribute it so it doesn't seem like you a plagiarising.

Reflection

LI: To build vocabulary
LI: to build expression

What did you enjoy the most?
For the play I mostly enjoyed how I had to say my lines with expression.

What was the most difficult part?
The most difficult part was that if I didn't know/practised my lines my group might not have a good performance.

What would you change in future?
I wou,d change how I expressed my lines in different ways.

Do you think your oral language improved?
Yes, I think it has improved.

What things would help if your teacher did them?

I think that when I had been helped by the teacher my expression have gone more better.

Capacity | Word Problems

LI: To measure and work out different capacities.

What is capacity? -  Capacity is how much something can hold.

This week we have been talking about Capacity. We had made a DLO based on us writing the measurements of an objects capacity. The capacities unit is either litres or mililitres. We had worked in a group to get this dones. After that we had done word problems. We worked in our groups to try get this done. To solve the word problems we had to answer questions. The questions were:

1. What does the problem want you to figure out?

2. What do you already know?

3. To solve the problem do you need on step or more?

4. What is the maths operation?

5. Initial number - Agent Number

6. Write a number sentence and solve the problem with the operation.

Procedure VS Explanation

LI: To use key vocabulary to unlock sentence and text structure.
This week we had used keywords to unlock our sentences and structure of our text.
We had compared Explanation and Procedure using the same stimulus. That stimulus is Manaiakalani  and Learn, Create, Share. We thought of 3 words for Learn, for Create and Share. We had created a DLO based on Learn, Create and Share. We had did 1 Explanation paragraph for each and Procedure.

Earth and Beyond | Space

LI: To activate our prior knowledge about, science, earth and beyond

Yesterday Nyjah and I has activated our prior knowledge as we have created a collaborative DLO explaining about the facts we know about space and planet. After that we had watched a video talking about different types of facts about space. We grew and built on our prior knowledge by learning new things we hadn't already knew about. As a team we told each other the things we knew so we could also build on our knowledge by talking about things we already knew about space.

Volume

L.I to identify what volume is.
Volume is the space that an object or someone takes up. This Poster can show you what volume means. I had also tested out volume with some math equipment in this slide. There were 8 different objects we had to find out the volume of.

Maori | Space

LI: To identify how space was made in moari beliefs.

This week for Maori we had watched a short clip about how the stars, sun, moon are in the sky in some moari tribes beliefs. It was about one tribe that believes in another story of how Papatuanuku and Rangi were separated. When they were separtated there was nothing but darkness. One of the son's made children one was named Te Ra, Te Marama and more. Tane Mahuta took them into the sky make the land much more lighter.

Formal and Informal Language

LI: To indentify the difference between Formal and Informal language.

This week for cybersmart we had been talking about  Formal and Informal language when we make a smart comment. We had talked about what is a Formal language and what is an Informal language. We made a DLO giving examples of Formal and Informal language.

Space | Rockets

LI: To understand what is needed for space travel.

We did a scientific experiment about rockets and we also created rockets. We decided what to change about our rockets and made a hypothisis (prediction). We had to test the rockets at least three times to make sure the experiment was accurate. We did it by measuring the distance of the rockets. Our hypothisis was correct. I learnt that the polystyrene rocket worked the best. I enjoyed this experiment.

Explanation | How was chocolate made?

LI: What is an Explanation.

An Explanation is a type of writing telling you how somethings works and why. This week we had made an explanation about "How was chocolate made?". We had to make sure that is was in structural order of an Explanation " TIMES".
What does TIMES stand for:

Titles

Introduction

Main Points

Explain Visually

Summary

Trip to the Stardome

LI: To invest more of space from the Stardome.

This week Panmure Bridge School had gotten the oppurtunity to go to Stardome to help understand more of our topic ( Space ). When we had got there we met our Host, his name is John. John first took us the the room to talk about the planets and the things we see when we look in the sky.

First Lesson:
In that room students asked questions about the planets and the stars. There we found out that the only star is the sun. We also found out how do many days it takes for the different planets rotat around the sun. Then we had did a activity that was like a scavenger hunt but we had to find information.

Scavenger Hunt!
We were in groups of 5. We had a tablet to record down our information. We were on a quiz and look for information. It was a cool experience because we could look at the different rockets made of lego.

Planetariaum:
Next we went into the Planetarium. In the Planetarium there the class looked into space. We sat in chairs. There we saw the planets and their weathers. There we found out that there is only one planet that humans and that is earth, but another planet or moon that has rivers and lakes.

Then we left with an excited mindset ready for more information we can learn.

Kebabs | Theatre

LI: To build vocabulary.
LI: To build expression.

This week for reading we had to make a flipgrid with the expression of the character we are playing. I am the pauper in the play. I need to try and act like I have nothing. We had to say our summary we wrote down in 25 words or less. The play we are doing this week is called the Kebabs.

Kiwi Can | Responsibility

LI: Doing things with out being asked.

Responsibility is showing you are a leader in what you do and you can be trusted to do tasks.
The catchphrase of the week is " Kiwi Can says: Responsible is what I am, that's the way of Kiwi Can".

At Kiwi Can we spoke as a group talking about the different responsibilities we have at home, at school or in the community. e.g at home you could be responsible for feeding your pets. At school you could be responsible for bringing your chrombook to school fully charged everyday, and for the community you could be responsible for cleaning your environment.

Activity:
Using skipping ropes, we had to balance a ball by working together. Once it was balanced perform a simple task e.g walk and touch the window without dropping the ball.

Basic Facts

LI: To learn more basic facts.

This week I have done the Brainbox. I had went up to 20 in my basic facts.

SSR Selfie 2019

LI: To summarise and retell a text.
For SSR Selfie Today I had read the book called " When disaster strikes Extreme Earthquakes and Tsunami's". The book talks about how tsunami's are made and how earthquakes are made. It also talks about where some tsunami's and earthquakes happen in the world.

Commenting

LI: To comment on other peoples blogs.

This week I had commented on Alayah's Blog. Her blog was about her play table for her play. Her job was to remember her lines and add expression.

Cybersmart | How to make a smart comment

LI: To learn how to make a smart comment.

This week for cybermsart we have been talking about how to make a smart comment. In  a smart comment you need:

  1.  Greetings - Hello ( name), Greetings (Name), etc
  2. Make a connection - I have also did this ...
  3. Question - What.., How..,Where.. Who..., When..,
  4. Positive Feedback - I think you should work on....
  5. Farewell - Keep it up!

Types of Forces

LI: To identify the types of forces in the Newtons Third Law.

This week for Inquiry we have been talking about the different forces in the Newtons Third Law. We were in groups of 3-4. In my group were Bella, Farzana and Sulia. The forces we did were Action Force, Reaction Force, Air Resistance Force, and Gravitational Force. The Force that I worked on was Action Force. Action Force is the force acting in one direction as the Reaction Force is the opposite.

Word Problems

LI: To practise figuring out word problems in addition and subtraction.

This week for Maths we had to solve maths problems by using either subtraction methods or addition. We had to solve a variety of different equations. We also learnt how to use the standard algorithm method. The main methods we used were Compensating, Place Value Addition, PV Subtraction, and Adding in parts. We had read the word problems to find out the equation. We had an agent number and  a starting number, the agent number is the number that changes the starting number.

Cause and Affect

LI: What is Cause and Effect

LI: What is Casual and Technical Language

This week we have been doing Cause and Effect. Cause and Effect is one event that makes another changing event. We had to base the cause and affects on LS1 and how does LS1 run. We had to add causal language in between cause and effect to make a compound sentence. Some of the casual language are: Therefore, Consequently, As a reslt of... and more. We had to double check our work to make sure that we put the casual languages in the right place.

Gymnastics | Kiwisport

LI: to develop body movements of balance, rotation and strength.
First to start our session we had done some stretches to stretch ourselves out. The stretches we did were:
- L shape
- Seal
- Butterfly
- Straddle
- Back, front side support

First Rotation - The first rotation my group started with was Beam. On the Beam we had to walk backwards without looking back, and to use our feet to tap the wood on the beam to make sure we were going straight. The then we did the Box. When you are doing the box you need to do a cartwheel, you can do a big cartwheel or a small one. Then we had the bench where we had to do a straight forward roll. Then we moved on to the other Rotations.

Second Rotation - Our second rotation was the trampoline. With the trampoline we had to run up, do a starfish then land in a proper position. The other one was the Backwards roll. We had to hold our neck
( for safety reasons) tuck then roll and land. Then after that we had to do the scorpian. The scorpian is doing a handstand but one leg higher than the other. Then we had to do the 180 degree jump. the 180 degree jump is jumping and turning 180 degree and landing.

Third Rotation - The third rotation we started with the Handstand on the wall. We had to walk up the wall with our legs and take one leg off the wall and make it straight then do it the same to the other leg. Then we had the front support when we lift our own body weight and do a tuck shape, or a L shape or a seal. Next was the Parallel bars. We also had to lift our weight but push up. Last was the Back/Front/Side rotation.

At the end we all sat down and talked about what was the most difficult for us so coach Steve can make the rotations more difficult to progress ourselves. The thing that was the most difficult for me was the Back/Front/Side rotation.

Play Break Down | Kebabs

LI: To build vocabulary
LI: To build expression

This week for reading we had a new play to practise. The play my group is doing is called "Kebabs". The play is about being greedy over littles things and consequences will always follow.  The slide helps you express your character and play the part with emotion. A new word I had learnt in the play was "Ramson". Ramson means Demanding to get something to release someone who was captured.

Kiwi Can | Honesty | Integrity

LI: To use Integrity and Honesty.

Staying honest is not always easy but telling the truth or helping a friend to tell the truth must be done.
We did a drama activity to show peoples emotions in different situations like when a lie is told or when someone snitches on you. You can have different types emotions to the different situations.

Patupaiarehe | Ihenga | Te Reo Maori

LI: To learn about Patupaiarehe fairies and the geography of Aotearoa.

Patupaiarehe are fairies that live in mountains. they have magic powers like super strength and changing people into patupaiarehe. The patupaiarehe we learnt about lived on Mokoia Island. We learnt about Patupaiarehe and fairies by listening to the story of Ihenga and searching for information, and using Google Maps.

SSR Selfie 2019

This week for SSR Selfie I had read the book called " The unexplained ESP". The text in this book is battling to see if ESP ( Extrasensory Perception) is real or not. There is people who claim they have done a form of ESP but nobody knows for sure if it was a hoax or it was real.

Expanding Horizon

LI: To learn adding in parts and place value adding. .
Mr Wong's maths groups had made a chart for adding in parts and place value addition. Mr Wong had linked us into a PDF which had four different problems in it. We had to work out these problems using these strategies.
What is Place Value Addition? - Place value addition is when you have big or small amount numbers for example 3285 + 3728. You first add the ones up to the biggest place value unit in the number. The biggest place value unit is thousands.
What is adding in parts? - Adding in parts is also  when you have numbers. You need to try find teh answer by making tidy/super tidy numbers. ( A tidy/super tidy number is numbers ending with 0. A super tidy number is a number that has more than 2-3 0's.). You need to add the numbers that you think is the most tidiest numbers.

Play Break Down

LI: to build vocabulary.

This week for Reading, Mr Ogilvie's groups is going to be doing acting. Each group had been given a play and a script from the book. The group had chosen the characters for each person. We also had to understudy someone from our group so if they aren't there for the play the play can still go on. We had made a copy of a DLO to practise our play and to memorise it. We also had to summarise our story. My groups story was called "Super Saturday".

Homophones | Simple Sentence | Compound Sentence | Complex Sentence

LI: to show an increasing knowledge of how a range of text conventions can be used appropriately

For the first week of Term 2, Mr Ogilvie's writing groups had started on Homophones and three different types of sentences. Theses sentence types are:

Simple Sentence: A simple sentence is just one idea that can be made into a compound.

Compound Sentence: A compund sentence is two ideas joined together by a conjunction.

Complex Sentence: A complex sentence is sentences starting with a conjunction and joining ideas with a comma.

We had to create a DLO and type down one of each of those three sentence types. In the sentences there has to be atleast one homophone, we had to make sure that the three sentences types are correct in our DLO.

A homophone is words that sound the same but mean different things. e.g would and wood, they both sound the same but mean different things.

Sailing

Tuesday 30th April, a couple of students from LS1 had got the oppurtunity to go down to Okahu Bay to particapate in the Volvo Have a Go Sailing experience. We were lucky enough to be sponsered by Yachting New Zealand and Rotary. The weather was perfect for sailing with sunny skies and a suitable breeze ( which is good for making our boats go faster as we sail. )
First we learnt how to put the boats together and the different parts of the boat and what they are used for. When we put the boats together we had learnt how to control the boat. The two main jobs were controlling the sail and the rudder. There were two people per boat so one person controls the rudder ( it is like turning the wheel controlling where the boat goes.) and another person controlling the sail ( it it is pulling the rope to make the sail catch some wind to make the boats go faster.).
We had sailed from the ASC to the Mechanic Bay, which is a very far distance where we could see the Sky Tower. While we were sailing back some of the students did the Titanic Challenge. One person goes and stand on the front of the boat where the sail is and the other one controls the boat.
We had lunch after going to see the Sky Tower. After lunch we went back out on the water. Our sailing instructors Steve, Justin and JR threw out balls and toys in the water for us to get it, they also threw out water guns so all of us who had a water gun squirted each other. Whoever has the most balls gets the most points. As we were sailing it was getting more wild but fun, people were capzising making the boats tip over, people fell out of the boats and the boats were overfilling with water.

I will like to give a big thank you to Rotary and Yachting New Zealand for sponsering us. I would also like to thank Ms Daf, Mr Ogilvie and Mr Wong who came along to support us through our experience. I had an awesome time at Sailing on that Tuesday, I hope to go back again and do more sailing.
