Activity 3: Stranger than Fiction [10 points + 5 possible points]

Here on earth there are more than 298 000 different kinds (species) of plants. Some of these plants live on land and some live in the water. Follow this link to read about 10 of the strangest plant species in the world. When you are finished, choose two of the plants from the list. 1) The White Baneberry 2) Hydnellum Peckii

Similarities;

They both have pink colors.

They are both found in North America.

They can both be eaten.


Differences ;

The
Hydnellum Peckii produces red blood like liquid. The White Baneberry has a stalk. The Hydnellum Peckii is a type of fungi. white banebelly hydnellum pecki

    This is Susie from the Summer Learning Journey team. Well done on choosing White Baneberry and Hydnellum Peckii as your two plants to compare and contrast.

    When I first saw these names, I thought they were quite unique names for a plant. Then I saw the pictures and I was even more surprised. To be completely honest, the visual aspects of Hydnellum Peckii gives me goosebumps. I would love to appreciate all sorts of plants but YIKES! Knowing that they produce blood on its surface gives me chills.

    Did you know that Hydnellum Peckii is an inedible (though not toxic) fungus? This means you cannot eat this plant even though there is no poison in it. On the other hand, all parts of white baneberry are poisonous which means they should be avoided as well.
