This week LS2 and Room 5 had the opportunity to go and explore the Maritime Museum. We went to invest more of our topic of inquiry this term, Explorers and Adventurers. We were put into groups of 5 with an adult as a supervisor. We experienced new and interesting things about back in the day exploration. Way before there were planes, cars or trains people travelled by ships and wakas. People had different ways of navigation. Instead of using google maps people used the environment, drawn maps, compasses and more. We had to create a recount of the day.
I am a Year 8 student at Panmure Bridge School in Auckland, NZ. I am in Learning Space 2 and my teachers are Mrs Anderson and Mrs Fisi'iahi.

Recount | TREE | Plan
LI: To write an imaginative recount.
This week we had been doing another session on recounts. We were looking at Imaginative recounts. We had to do an imaginative about Little red riding hood. We had to work on the reveal on TREE. We also had to plan out the Title and plan the Reveal also the Events. We had to be a character either Little Red Riding Hood or the Big Bad Wolf. We had to buddy up with someone to finish the task. I worked with Charlize. We used both of our ideas to create the Reveal for our recount.

Recount Edit
LI: To revise and edit a recount.
This week we had an option write about a memorable Kiwi Can session, A Music session with Whea Ode or a Ki O Rahi session with Coach Shanise. We had to pair up with someone from our group. We had 40 minutes to create a recount about one of the three options. After the 40 minutes we had to share our piece of writing to our partner and they need to try make our recount better even if it is the best. However much changes we had that it how much points we have. If there is any other additional changes it is 1-5 points. My partner was Oscar and out of me and him I won.
Oscars Points : 24 points - For the amount of changes made

Improved Paragraph
LI: To make improvements to a recount.
This week we have been doing another session of trying to make this a very good sentence. We had to add adjectives, nouns and more. We had to add punctuation marks and what we think is boring we change it. We had to make the sentence bring attention to the reader.

LI: To plan and write a recount
This week for writing we had a good headstart. We had been chosen a number and with that number we right as many things about that number and is related to that number. We did this in groups of 5-6. My groups number was 9. We did addtions to 9 and maths equations equal to 9. We had to just put down our ideas.
Then we did a plan individually. We put down all of our ideas to make the the plan for one of the things we did in the holidays. We had to write down the structure of TREE.
TREE:
Title - What your recount is about
Reveal - Who, What, When, Where, Hook
Events - What happened
Ending - Personal Reflection

Recreating Recount | Paragraph Structure
LI: to correct certain structure and language features in a recount.
This week for writing we were talking about different structure and language features in our groups. My Group did paragraph structure. We had to remake a paragraph from a recount that didn't make sense. We had to see if the paragraph structure was in order of TEE. T stands for Topic Sentence, E stands for explain and the last E stands for Ending.

Recount Writing
Badminton
“YASS!’’ as I heard that we were doing a new Kiwi Sport session and it was called Badminton. Badminton is when you use a Racket and a Shuttle.
Group A went to our first session of Badminton. As we walked into the school hall to do our first session of Badminton we sat down in front of Kevin and greeted him. “YAS!’’ as I said when Kevin was telling us we were going to play stuck in the mud for a warm up. Kevins ways of playing stuck in the mud is slightly different. When someone is out they stand like a star fish but instead of going under them to make them free we need to clap our hand in between their legs and tap their hand.
Then we had to get a racket and a shuttle. Kevin was showing us the things we were not allowed to do with the racket like we were not allowed to use the racket as a toy, a guitar, and to play sword fighting. Then he was showing us our For grip and Back Grip. We had to hold the racket on the hand we write with. We first had to practise using the racket and the shuttle until we got used to using it.
Then we had to practice using the racket and the shuttle.Kevin put a challenge for us, our challenge was to hit the shuttle with the racket 10 or more times. For me it was hard. My high score was either 8 or 9. My goal was to get 15 but sadly I failed. Kevin made it look pretty easy because he was good at Badminton. Some people got 10 or more. Then we had to keep on practicing using the racket.
Kevin made us challenge ourselves to see if we could do trick shots using the racket. So we needed to hit the shuttle then hit it at the back of your back. We still needed to see if anyone could get 10 or more. I found this very hard because I could only do about 3 or 2 of those. Our other trickshot was we had to hit the shuttle with the racket in between our legs and see if we could do 10 or more.
After that Kevin told us to challenge each other and see if we can hit the shuttle lots of times if the shuttle fell to the floor we need to bob down and the last one remaining was the winner. We did 2 rounds and the three people who stood lat was remaining as the 3 finalists. They were Lukah, Matthew, and someone else. They were all competing each other to see if one of them were going to be standing last. They were all focusing on the shuttle but sadly two lost and the one who remained standing was Matthew! He won out of the three people competing.
At last we were almost finish with Badminton and before we were finish Kevin was reminding us what was the things you do on do with the rack and we needed to answer him.
Finally we were finished with badminton for the day and before we left the school hall we thanked Kevin and then headed off back the LS1.
LI:To revise recount writing.I think I did better in writing this then my Production writing because this has more detail then my production writing and that I did this in 40 minutes which I thought I couldn't do but I managed. I think I need to work on Punctuation. My Score I thought I was, was 28 which was higher then an average Year 4 score.
