Tech Reflection | Woodwork | Mr Grundy

Today we had our first session for Tech at Tamaki College. This term our instructor is Mr Grundy. Mr Grundy teaches wood works. Mr Grundy explained the base a wood design. Joint; a joint is what connects two pieces of wood as the base of the design.

After looking at different examples of wood designs we drew 8 different wood designs that we would like to make. Mr Grundy showed us a M&M dispenser that was created by him and other students. After being showed the dispenser we all had many ideas of what we could make. Next week we are going to start creating our designs.

Know your keyboard | Cyber Smart Activity 2

LI: to learn more about your keyboard.

This was the second activity for the cyber smart challenge. This activity was based on knowing your keyboard and the different types of keyboard shortcuts. With our knowledge of using chrome books we found out the different types of keyboard shortcuts. For example; Copy and past is - Ctlr + c + ctrl + v. With this activity we found identified the different uses of each keyboard tab.

Kawa of Care | Cybersmart

LI: Be cyber smart and use our devices to learn, create, and share.

Today we were given 2 cyber smart challenges to complete. This was the first activity. For this activity we were putting the words in the right sentences, basically matching words with sentences. There were different scenarios explaining why we need to be careful with our chrome books and how we can handle them. One of the helpful advice they gave us were; hold both handles of chrome book case when taking it somewhere.

Lastly we created an agreement of use when using our chrome books. This was called the Kawa of Care.

Statistics | Pie Chart

LI: to plan and carry out a statistical investigation

Sulia, Chris and I asked different students in LS2 4 different questions. Those questions were; ‘What is your favorite Color’ ‘What is your favorite Animal’ ‘What is your favorite Food’ and ‘What is your favorite brand’. After gathering the data, we recorded it on a piece of paper and then created a graph. We chose one of the 4 questions as a topic for our graph. The question we chose was ‘What is your favorite Color?’. 4 students liked blue, 4 students liked purple, 2 students like black, 2 people liked green, 1 person liked Sage, 1 person liked red, and 1 person liked yellow. The graph we made was a pie chart/graph.

Hydration and Health

LI: to understand why staying hydrated is important for our health and our learning.

As you may know, our bodies are mostly made up of water. Drinking water regularly makes you hydrated and full of energy, but the opposite is being dehydrated. Being dehydrated is when your body isn’t getting enough water that it needs. This causes tiredness, lack of energy, dry lips, and dark colored urine.

In groups of 2-4 we created a DLO explaining why being hydrated is good for both health and learning. In my group was Sulia, Peyton, & Tanisha. After reading this DLO I hope you have a good understanding on why is it very important to keep hydrated by drinking water.

Leadership

LI: to unpack what a leader looks like.

We unpacked the meaning of leadership and what it takes to be a leader. We wrote down the meaning of 4 different words team, leadership, role model, and responsibility which are all good qualities to have as a leader. We listed as many words as possible linked to leadership. Using these words we created a 25 word summary explaining what a leader is;

"A leader is an individual who motivates and inspires others to challenge themselves in order to complete a common goal. By using communication and collaboration.".

After this we made a collaborative DLO explaining all the subjects we learnt in the session. The people who worked with me was, Vayan, Chisa, Aisea, Ong and Azatulah.

Te Tiriti O Waitangi | Summary

LI: To explain in fewer words what the text is about.

Our class reading task was to learn about the events of Te Tiri O Waitangi. Each group read an article to understand what Te Tiriti o Waitangi is about and the different events that took place during Te Tiriti o Waitangi. We completed two reading comprehension tasks to learn more about Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

After reading the Te Tiriti o Waitangi article, our reading group rolled a question dice (which decides whether we will ask a why, what, who, when, where or how question). Our group wrote four questions in total. The questions we asked were ‘Why didn’t the Pakeha stay honest to the treaty?’, ‘Who was at fault for the conflict between the Maori and the Pakeha?’, ‘What gave the Maori the courage to speak up and stand for their rights?’ and ‘Where in NZ did Pakeha take most of the land from the Maori?’.

Once we thought of and wrote down the questions on a piece of paper, we moved on to writing a summary using keywords from the Te Tiriti o Waitangi article. First of all, our group skimmed through the article to find 20 important keywords. Then, we eliminated some keywords and choose the 6 most important words from the first 20 words. Using those 6 words, we created a paragraph summary that included information about all of the events that happened in Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Our summary included information about the signing of the treaty and what the treaty declared. It also included details about how the Pakeha betrayed the Maori and started a conflict between the two parties.
