Swimming | Kiwi Sport | Kicking

Helen was our swimming instructor for Kiwi Sport. She made us do a challenge because it was our last time going to YMCA pools for Kiwi Sport because we had school holidays.

Our session was about kicking. We learnt how to kick our feet with long legs and small kicking to not make any big splashes we used boards.

Then we did a little bit of sequencing.
"What does sequencing mean?" - It means when you do things in a particular order.

We had to swim from one platform to another but we had to do in a certain way. We tried using different swimming skills. So first we had to do a mushroom float when we crunch up and tuck our legs in then we make a form of a T then get into your stream line position looking like a rocket then blast off swimming no arm strokes. Then we changed the sequence. We had to do a mushroom float, T form, Streamline then blast off doing 4 arm strokes and turn around, then float on your back sculling to the next platform. Then we had to try make our own sequence with 5 swimming skills.

Then we had another challenge. We had to see if we could swim one end to the 2nd platform without toching the ground. We had to partner up with someone to do that. I partnered up with sulia. Me and sulia ended up with a draw. Then we had to sit on the boards and scull to the other platform. I won that round. Then we all said thank you to helen and gave her a high five then went out pool safely and got changed back into our uniform.

Swimming | Kiwi Sport | YMCA

This week for swimming we had a different swimming instructor named Helen. When we had gotten in the water Helen asked us some questions about the things we have been talking about in the previous weeks we have been coming.

If you get caught in a rip you always need to go with the water and not fight it because it will make you drown and sink. If you are not a good swimmer then you can just float on your back and go with the water.

We did streamline swimming to the other platform and back. We had to put our hands up and put them behind our ears and just kick. We had to make our legs long and do small kicks.

Then we were doing sculling. We learnt how to scull when you are in a river. When you are in the river you put your feet first so if there is any rocks or something you can bounce off it. You have to put your legs together so that you don't hit anything.

Then we were treading the water. We had to use a noodle and tread with the noodle for 3 minutes and tread without the noodle for 1 minute. We had to try not to touch the ground. This was our challenge.

Then we did monkey swimming. We had to climb on the side of the pool moving sideways. Then we had got the rings and Helen will throw them in the water and two people will try get one of the two rings.

NZ Defense Force Visitor

LS1 Had a visitor name Isaac Ching. He is apart of the NZ air force. Isaac came to talk to us about bombs and defenses. There is two types of main bombs Smart bombs and Dumb bombs. Smart bombs are controlled to where they go so they are launched to a certain place. Dumb bombs are called dumb because they don't think about where they go and they are dropped to a certain place. We talked about how you can defend bombs. So Isaac said that if you have a wall that is angled then the bomb will bounce off. Also like mainly houses have triangular roofs so the water can bounce off the roof. We made a challenge to create a shelter for a helicopter using straws seletape and paper.

Duffy Visitor

This week we had a Duffy assembly. We had visitors come to talk to us about what they do and who they are. We had a very very special visitor named Michel Mulipola.

Who is Michel Mulipola?
He was a comic artist. He drew comic books and illastrated school journals. Michel Mulipola was inspired to become a comic artist by reading school journals. His inpiration took him very far in life. Michel Mulipola also had different hobbies. He was also a professional wrestler years ago. He told us " I know when ever I go onto that ring I know I am taking the risk of serious injuries.". When Michel Mulipola was a pro wrestler and he told us even himself a professional wrestler is nervous to take the risks of injuries and getting hurt. Michel Mulipola was also a semi-pro tekken gamer. He made 12% of the worlds best tekken gamers. He is also pretty good at tekken.

What books/comics has Michel Mulipola illastrated?

He has illastrated a book about the rocks grandpa and also he has illastrated a book about WWE. He had got to draw sammy joe beating up another wrestler.

Kiwi Can | Perserverance | Relisilience

LI: To be perserverance and show resilience among other people. This week we had our last teaching session with Kiwi Can Mr Matt and Miss Lily.

What is Perserverance?
It when you never give up and don't give up. Also to be patient and to not be frustrated to other people or by somethings. Perserverance is apart of being resilient.
What is Resilience?
Resilience is bounicng back and coping with your challenges so never giving up and keep on trying over and over again.

We had to try be perserverance and resilient during our enigiser and activity.

Our enigiser was called tangled. Our Kiwi Can leaders pick a tagger and the tagger had to try tag people. When the tagger tags you then you guys have to link up and hold hands and try tag other people. You can't tag someone without being linked.

When you get tagged and link up some people were getting frustrated because some reason.

Our activity was called Invisible touch. Invisible touch is when you split into two groups of people and the leaders have to say a number of people who goes. They choose a person who has the ball and the person with the ball has to get it to the other end but if they get touched by someone from the other team the person who tags them has the ball then they have to try go and run to the goal.

We had to try not be frustrated.

Timetable | 1 x - 6 x

This week I did my timetables. I had did my 1 timestable to 6 timestables. Whenever I need to learn my timetables I write it here and re read it over and over again to remember.

Swimming

LI: To learn how to swim using a boogieboard.

First we went to our swimming teacher. First we hag gotten a board each. We had to hold the bottom of the boogie board with two hands. We hold it like crabs with thumb on the bottom. We had to kick in the water with the boogie board with just our feet and no arms. After we did that we did that with arms. We had to put our heads under the water and stroke with the boogieboard and kick your feet. We did this back and forth to the platform and back. Then we had to do it with our swimming teacher making waves. We had to try get past. Then he taught us to make a shield with the board. We had to put it up and shield while trying to swim to the other side.

Then we were trying to thread. We had to all try one at a time. The aim was the get both of your feet going opposite circle directions and your hand movement going in the motion of sculling.

Then we all went into small pool and did a swirl in the water. We had to all hold hands and move around in a circle in the water then we all had to let go and float. We were floating in the water moving in the circle.

Emotive language

LI: to write informative but emotive paragraphs.

This week for writing we had it create a poster explaining what emotive language is. Emotive language is a piece of language feature for exposition persuasive writing. Emotive is like emotions, emotional, and also feelings. They use Emotive language to make the reader agree with their statement.

I used an example for my poster with emotive language. I used words to explain how I felt. It was just an example. I also added images to my poster.

Roads, Highways and Motorways

LI: To understand the difference between roads, highways and motorways.

This week for inquiry we had to find out what is the difference between roads, highways and motorways. First  we found a pair and in the pair we had to watch 3 videos. 1 video was about how to make a road and another was about what are roads and their was an interesting video that had information about lane, streets, roads, crescents, place, close, arcade, drive and Avenue. We found out out the difference to all those. We made a DLO to record our information on it. Here is some of the information.
  • A crescent is a road that resembles a crescent and attach to a road at both ends.
  • Narrow road oftenly in a rural area. Lanes are made for only single line of vehicles. Lanes are apart of roadways  to control and guide drivers and reduce traffic conflicts Lanes are for the country sides.
  • A road can be anything that can connect to two points. A road is also like connecting one road in between two different roads to get to another road that you are on.
    • Streets is a public road in a city, that has building on each side. Streets often go 90° to avenues. Which has trees or buildings on each side to. On a street you might find people walking their dogs. Streets connect people for interaction , While roads connect towns and cities to travel.
    • Drives takes their indication from the environment. Streets are public roads in towns, cities or villages. It is apart of highways, road ways and motorways.

Kiwi Can

LI: To learn how to be perserverance.

This week for Kiwi Can we were talking about perserverance. Perserverance means to be paitient and keep on trying over and over again also to never give up. We had our enigiser. It was called add master. You go around the circle and you put a number of fingers you want out on your hand and the other person you are versing is doing the same thing to. You count all of the finger that are held up and first person to say it wins.

We tried to be perserverance in our enigiser. To be perserverance in our enigiser we needed to be patient and do not get angry of you lose the challenge.

Next we had our Activity. It was called building towers. Building towers is when you have to try and use the cards given to you to try make a tower in a team. We tried to not get frustrated during making the cards because it seemed very easy but little did we know it was extremely hard. ALmost everyone had gotten frustrated when Mr Matt said " Four minutes left!" we were all like
"AHHH" so we all made a plan.

This week for reading we are doing pacific myths and legends. I chose In the beginning. We wrote the purpose, Who are the main characters, questions and a visualisation. Here is who the characters are.

Ranginui is apart of maori mythology. He is one of the gods known to be called Rangi or Ranginui. He is the god of the sky. There was nothing but darkness but a shimmer of light ranginui came onto the earth. He saw this beautiful wonder as it was another god named Papatuanuku. They became man and wife making Aotearoa

Analog to Digital Time

LI: To convert between analog and digital clocks.

This week for Mr Ogilvies maths our must do was to make a DLO explaining our version of a typical day starting from when we wake up to go sleep. We had to do this using mini clocks to show the time and the actual time written down. Also how long it was. The mini clock was an analog clock. We had to control the clock from whatever we do in our task. I used a google doc and made tables for each time in the day.

We also had to use AM and PM. AM ante meridiem, PM stands for post meridiem.
Here is my link to my google doc - DLO

First all the we had to learn was a scrum. We had to pair up with people and do the form of a scrum. We had to then paur up in our 3 with another 3 and make a bigger scrum. Then we had to do a line out. Three people on one side then 3 people on the other, they had to try get the ball. There was a thrower that throws the ball in the middle of the line out if the thrower said Long then they throw all the way to the back if they say short then they throw in front. Then we moved next to passing. We learnt how to pass like the all black pass but when you pass aim with your hands so put it up and aim at the person you are passing to. Then we learnt how to tackle safly. We had to just tap their waist with both hands. Then we had to learn how to tackle safely. You have to put your hand around their waist and put your ear at their hip and put them on the ground safely.

Then we all headed back to the bus and went to school.

Maths Activities

LI: To use a formula to calculate the area of rectangles and squares
This week for maths we did different perimeter and area activities.  We had gotten into a group of four people. I worked with Sakina, Sulia and Miiana. In those groups we had did different stations. My group first worked on station 2. Then we went to station 3 to 4, 4  to 5 and 5 to 1. We had to complete each station. We all worked in a group to solve the problems. We had to write down all our information about the station on a DLO talking about what we had to do. We also had to solve some square root. We had work sheets we had to read that had all the information about each station. We needed some maths equiptment for each.

Ban cellphones in Schools | Persuasive Text

LI: To write a persuasive argument.

This week we made a video talking about the argument we agree on which is banning cell ohones in school. We first read this article about france banning cell phones in school so we had to make a vidoe about our opinion about banning cell phones in school. We had to first write a statement, then 3 causual effects. We also had to add graphs to explain more to the people about our statemnet to make them follow.

The Son's of Ma'afu

LI: Make a DLO teaching about the story and the lesson this story teaches people.

This week for reading we had to make a DLO explaining the story we chose. I chose the Son's of Ma'afu. It is about a great tongan chief that has two sons. They are handsome and strong but causes a lot of trouble that they don’t actually mean to cause.  The villagers hated them. The chief their father made excuses because he loves them. The villagers said to take them to Atavahea to get some water from the water hole. They had gotten water but had defeated the giant duck. They went back to the village but the villagers never accepted them so they sent them to Muihātafa. They wanted to show their sorriness to their father. So they went to the bottom of the water hold and a triggerfish attacked them. They beat the trigger fish took it back to the village. The villagers said they don’t want them in their village because they killed two of the most dangerous animals in the island. So they went to go live somewhere they can see eachother every day. So they lived in the sky. The purpose of the story was to let people know that you shouldn’t have hate onto people after they did something bad but they have did the things to show how much they are sorry.

Also that if you do something also remember to always think about what you are doing because you can hurt someone you love.

Roads, Highways, Motorways | Traffic Games

This week we played 3 games all based on Traffic, and road safety. We had to control traffic and roads. On some of the games we had to try control the traffic and other games we had to solve a puzzle making a road for cars to drive to the other side. I learnt that controlling traffic is not easy. Whne I had my first experience playing the games it was very hard. There were level you play after you complete a level.  I also had to control highways and roads going through train tracks. We had to try not crash any cars. Traffic can cause crashes, injuries, and even deaths.

Swimming | Sculling

LI: To learn different techniques of swimming.

To get into the pool we had to do the safe entry.

First we did sculling on our back head first with a pool noodle. We took turns doing it from the platform and back. Then we did feet first sculling. It was alot harder than head first sculling. We had to scull fowards not backwards. It was very diffucult but our instructor Maryanne said that it was okay if we don't get it because you won't get it on the first try.

Next we had treading. We had to move both of our legs in big circles in a sitting position one hand doing the sculling motion and the other hand up.

Next we did diving. We did a seated dive. We had to bob and put our arms tucked behind our ears, and just go in the water from you position. We had to go deep in the water.

Then we did a safe jump into the pool. We had to bend our knees and jump in.
