Try to include elements of Kiwiana in your design (e.g. Pohutukawa trees, Hokey Pokey ice cream, etc). Post a copy of your postcard picture to your blog. Be sure to describe what you have drawn on your blog beneath the picture.)

Activity 2: What’s in a Name? - Week 3 - Day 1 -

During the 1950s the population of New Zealand grew by 400,000 people. That is huge! In fact, so many people were having babies that many people refer to this period in our history as the ‘baby boom.’ Popular baby names in 1950s New Zealand were:

GIRLS BOYS

Bonus Activity: Women at Work - Week 2 - Day 4

One day you are walking along the deck of the ship when you hear a loud bang. You start to run as you see smoke coming from the far end of the ship. You run towards the room where your patients are waiting to receive treatment from the doctor. Just as you arrive at the door to their room you hear another loud bang and you jump in fright. You are too anxious to walk into the room with the patients as you are not sure of who or what is inside the room. Without hesitation, you walk away from the door feeling scared.

As you are walking through the corridor scared you see two tall, Bulky soldiers armed with two heavy rifles with red bandanas. They don't look like ordinary soldiers, foreign men. You gasp, and in a hurry, you walk away as fast as you can. You try to escape the ship, but there were more soldiers around the ship. They were surrounding the places that you could exit out of the ship. There was one place on the ship you could escape. It was the fire exit. To get there you will need to get past the soldiers so you sneak up on to one of the men and grab their gun, the soldier you are sneaking up on is the man near the exit which is in the corridor, with the gun you pretend to shoot the guy if he doesn't attack or contact another soldier and tell them that you are escaping.

Bonus Activity: Crossing the Tasman - Week Two: A Period of Change (1870-1950)

YAY!! I felt shocked that the fact that we FINALLY LANDED!!
It was really shocking to me
To see that we have landed safely,
I never thought that we would of landed safely with that amount of time to get there

With all the heavy ice and rain we didn't think we could make it
    Unluckily the RADIO STOPPED WORKING!
The pilot couldn't see the front windscreen!

We all were tired from the flight,
Some of us sleeping some of us not,
With all of our tiredness I never knew that we will land safely in Christchurch!

As we landed I felt the rush of shock and fortunate that we have did it
Even though it was a first time
All the way from Tasman Australia to Christchurch NZ

This bonus activity was about a crew of four men flew, for the first time, across the Tasman from Australia to New Zealand and we had to write poem that describe how we felt if we were in the flight.

    Activity 2: Art Deco - Week 2 - Day 2: The Roaring 20’s (The 1920s)

Activity 1: Popular Culture – The Silent Movie - Day 2: The Roaring 20’s (The 1920s)- the lions cage

The movie I picked was The lion cage. I think the movie is about guy running away from  an animal he was  afaraid of then he came past the type of animal and  he ran away from it that lead him to a cage where a lion is sleeping and he is trying not to wake the lion up and is trying to find a way out of the cage, because the first time he was trying to get out he made the block of wood make the door lock and he was looking for a way to get out and also not wake the lion up. I enjoed this piece because it is really interesting because I have never saw a movie that is silent like that and the actors are very curious to me because when they are not speaking it is a little hard to know what they are talking about, I had to watch this 2 or 3 times to figue out what the actors were doing.
